Liam took a trip with his mommy, auntie, and grammy up to Iowa City for the day. When they all came back, we went to The Old Dairy to celebrate Liam’s First Birthday. Liam had so much fun! He first played with the balloons. Then, I took a cup of water and let him try drinking from it. He would take a gulp, but keep his mouth open and let most of the water fall out. His eyes would get real big and he would start laughing. I think he enjoyed the experience and thought the cold water was an interesting sensation. For dinner, we tried to feed him a grilled cheese sandwich. Surprisingly, although bread and cheese are some of his favorites, he kept pushing them out of his mouth. Instead, he enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich his grammy was feeding him. For dessert, his first ice cream flavor was Blue Bunny’s Rainbow Sherbet. He had an interesting first reaction to the cold treat that was caught on picture. When we got home, Liam opened birthday presents, and lots of them! Thanks to all of his generous family members!!! After presents, we sat Liam in front of his cake and he began to touch and pull and poke at it. That was fun to watch! He gladly accepted a few bites of cake. Then we fed him formula. He took a short nap, then woke up a little unhappy. So we gave him some water/apple juice mix and he felt much better. It looked like he had a sugar crash at that time because he had this happy little grin on his face and he was so mellow. It was an amazing First Birthday for Liam – Praise God!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010The first week of class is going great! God never ceases to amaze me with his provisions. I just need to continue trusting Him. I am also greatly enjoying the company of Jess’s family.

“For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
New Design for Website
Thursday, August 19th, 2010Thanks to my Uncle David for his tremendous work in redesigning jonathanday.org
.
Through his company, dm-webcreation.com he has designed some pretty awesome websites. So I hired him to redesign my website so that it would look more professional and have better functionality for my students and others who want to see my teaching and research.
.
The site has now been published. Over the months and years to come I hope to continue working with my Uncle David to upload content to make it a very useful website and to glorify God through it.
Family Time
Monday, August 16th, 2010It’s been wonderful hanging out with Jess and Liam at night after long days of work! Last night, Jess, Liam, and I went browsing through Wal-Mart again and watched Slumdog Millionaire at home. Liam fell asleep on my chest at about 9:30pm. About 20 minutes after that he rolled over on to his side and was laying his head on his outstretched arm. He was looking up at me with tired, but loving eyes. It was awesome! He is such a wonderful baby. Full of life, laughter, and love! His grandma and aunt will be coming to see him in a few days!
.
God has blessed Jess and I so much these past few weeks. The latest tremendous blessing has been Liam falling asleep consistently for the past week at about 10:00pm and sleeping until 8:30/9:30am. Praise God!
Busy Week
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010It’s been busy the last two weeks. So much to do when you move and get started with a new job. I am glad that God is helping me remember all the things I need to do. I am trying to work from 7:00am – 5:00pm (work out time included), so that I can get much of the preparation for my classes done beforehand and accomplish all of the little tasks I need to do to complete our move. I am definitely relying on God more and more for strength. It was definitely good to hear the message in church on Sunday about we can’t handle life on our own and the verse used for that day: “Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong” – 2nd Corinthians 12:10.
.
Jess and Liam are working really hard to get adjusted to the new environment. The house isn’t unpacked yet, so it makes it difficult to do even the little things. I am continually praying that God will give Jess and Liam strength as they get used to their new home.

Liam has been developing in so many ways. He is trying to figure everything out! He is grabbing his stomach to look at his belly button; he is playing different games like place objects in certain locations or peak-a-boo; he is touching things with just his pointer finger; he is pushing and pulling on his gate; he is practicing standing on his own with no support; he is trying to feed the puppies his graham cracker; he is developing anxiety when someone leaves the room; and he is sleeping through the night much better (last night: 10:00pm – 9:30am and no wake ups – Praise God!)
