I am flying from Oakland to Cedar Rapids today. I have a stop over in Phoenix for just over an hour and another stop in Chicago for just over two hours. I leave from Oakland at 9:15am Pacific Time and arrive in Cedar Rapids at 8:58pm Central Time.

God just blessed me with having my luggage bag sent to my destination for free. I was planning to lug it around all of the airports, but the flight from Oakland is full so they were offering the free check in to clear space in the cabin. God is Good!

I just found out that the Final Deposit of my dissertation has been accepted! Praise God! I am now officially and completely done with the requirements for my doctoral degree.
.
When I got back to the airport, Jess and Liam were just stepping out of the elevator. It’s great to be back with both Jess and Liam! Jess and I hugged and kissed (a week is a long time away from each other!) Liam was extremely tired, but after a few minutes he got a second wind. He smiled and laughed as I held him. Then, we both crawled around on the airport floor. We had so much fun, laughing at each other, while we took turns chasing each other in a crawl.

Day of Flights
Monday, July 19th, 2010Waiting for Tomorrow
Sunday, July 18th, 2010I am spending the night in the Econo Lodge, just 1 mile from the airport. My flight takes off at 9:15am tomorrow morning. I am eating pizza and watching TV. I tried to watch The Office, but the wireless internet wasn’t strong enough to play the video. Just one more day until I see my wife and son!
Almost Home Again
Sunday, July 18th, 2010Today, we have to finish moving a couch and a bookcase from the truck into the apartment. Then we have to switch the contents of the two bedrooms. After that, we may take some things to storage. Finally, we have to do some unpacking. I will be staying in the Econo Lodge at the Oakland Airport tonight. Tomorrow is going to be a long flight home, but hopefully I will get some work done. I can’t wait to see Jess and Liam. I love them so much and have missed them all week!
Sacrifice
Saturday, July 17th, 2010This past Sunday night, I believe God showed Jess a way that our family could serve Him. Jess found out that James, one of our graduate school friends, was moving all of his family’s belongings to California by himself with no apartment to move into. Jess asked me if I would be willing to help James accomplish this enormous task. It would mean a sacrifice for our whole family: A week away from each other. We certainly did not want to do this, but we really felt God wanting us to do it. So Monday morning, I said goodbye to Jess and Liam and left with James on a 2000 mile journey to Sunnyvale, California. We are very thankful that God blessed and honored us with this sacrifice. Whitney and Carl, James’ wife and son, are staying with Jess and Liam for most of the week.
.
Praise God! On Thursday, James found an apartment for his family to move into. After driving by and looking at about 8 different places, God has blessed James, Whitney, and Carl with a very nice apartment to stay in. It is only 0.1 miles from the CalTrain, which will take James right into work. There is also a nice outside play area, pool, and nearby park for Whitney and Carl. The apartment is also really nice inside.

Yesterday, was Jess and I’s 5th wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary Jess!!! I took the train from Sunnyvale and visited Palo Alto and San Francisco. I tried sushi (Halibut and Amberjack), walked under the Golden Gate bridge, and saw Giants Stadium. Below is a link to all the pictures I took.

Today, we are moving all of the family’s belongings into the apartment. It is an enormous task, but we have the entire weekend to get it done.
Cow Appreciation Day
Friday, July 9th, 2010Jess, Liam, and I dressed up for Cow Appreciation Day. You get free food from Chick-Fil-A when you do this and we just love Chick-Fil-A! We were totally expecting only some free food, but God blessed us with the entire meal (including Liam’s) for free. Chick-Fil-A was totally appreciative of our spirit. And since I know “they” will be reading my blog – Thank you Chick-Fil-A! We are sad, though, that when we move to Macomb, the nearest Chick-Fil-A will be 1.5 hours away. So please Chick-Fil-A, show us more appreciation and build us a restaurant close by like you did in Coralville a year after we moved to Iowa City.
