Circus Peanuts, Candy Corn, and Spaghetti O’s

Monday, March 8th, 2010

What do the above three things have in common?  They are the foods that I crave, desire, and want very badly – then shortly after eating them feel sick and vow never to eat them again, until sometime later when I forget that I had gotten sick from eating them.

.

Right now I am craving circus peanuts.

Working Dad

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Today I am officially a working dad.  I praise God for allowing Jess to stay at home so that I can work full time.  I am at school right now clarifying some comments from my adviser regarding the first rough draft I submitted. This morning I read through two chapters in Marathon about Carter and Ford’s campaign strategies.  Jessica is learning Liam’s day time schedule.

.

Last night Jess, Liam and I went to see Avatar.  We appreciated the very modern and technologically advanced imagery created in the movie, but the plot and story line were only mediocre.

.

I am also praising God that Liam is slowly but surely being able to sleep longer through the night.  Last Sunday night he slept for 6.5 hours without a feeding.  He has been sleeping 3.5 to 4 hours consistently now without food and that is very good for Jess and me!

One Cheerio and a Million Peas

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Today Liam had two firsts. We fed him his first cheerio today at church. The doctor at his last appointment said that he was ready to start eating a couple of cheerios. So we gave him one cheerio today and he dissolved it in his mouth and swallowed it. In the afternoon, we fed him peas for the first time. And he ate a lot of peas! Then for dinner he had sweet potato, his favorite!

President Ford as the Scarecrow

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

I have been reading Jules Witcover’s book, Marathon. It’s about the political events between 1972 and 1976. President Ford developed the reputation as a bumbler between 1974-1976. There were two assassination attempts on Ford, he would trip and bump into things, and he had some trouble pronouncing words like geothermal.  They parodied the song, “If I only had a brain” (Wizard of Oz) for President Ford.  The lyrics are:

.

I could while away the hours
Reflecting on my powers,
As we go down the drain
I could spend like Rockefeller,
I could talk like Walter Heller,
If I only had a brain.

I could overcome inflation
Put gas in every station
And we would feel no pain
I could make the Arabs cower,
I could be an Eisenhower
If I only had a brain.

Oh, gee, if I could be
Like Truman in his prime;
Salty speeches whipping Congress into line,
Say “geothermal” – the first time.

I could hold down grocery prices,
Wipe out the oil crisis,
Solve problems with no strain.
I could do a lot of thinkin’,
I could be another Lincoln,
If I only had a brain.

.

This shows that it isn’t just George W. Bush who developed this reputation.

No More Mr. Mom

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Yesterday was my last day as Mr. Mom. It’s been a long, tough learning experience. I now have a very high appreciation for stay at home parents. I feel relieved that a huge burden has been lifted and now Jess will take over that role as she departed from her job at ACT yesterday. Despite the huge burden – it was an absolute joy being able to bond with my son for those last few months.
