Waiting

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Jess and I are patiently waiting.  Waiting for the contract from WIU.  Waiting for the time to come to sell our house.  Waiting for the time to come when the dissertation will be done.  Waiting for August to come around so we can gladly switch roles.  But “I can do  all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).  We are both learning to be content until these things take place.

Today we increased the ratio of rice cereal to milk for Liam.  We used 3 teaspoons of rice cereal to 6 teaspoons of milk.  We are going to do this for a few days before we increase the ratio again.

It’s “William Ailliw” Day!    Unfortunately, Liam is still a little congested.

.

Liam is very happy despite his congestion!  This afternoon, he ate his rice cereal milk mixture.   I increased the volume to 3 teaspoons of rice cereal and 9 teaspoons of milk.  He gladly ate it all with about 70 – 80% of it going down.  Liam probably would have eaten more, but it would have taken too much work to make some more.  After eating, I sat him on my lap for a little bit, but he was anxious to play.  So I put him in his exersaucer and he is having so much fun!  He is spinning around playing with all of the different toys.  He also laughed at the images he saw on the TV.

Sick Day

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Liam woke up congested this morning.  So I am staying home from work to take care of him.  We don’t want him to pass anything to his friend Charlotte.  He’s taking the congestion in stride.

.

Yesterday, I fed Liam rice cereal with milk.  The ratio I used was 1 teaspoon of rice cereal to 3 teaspoons of milk.  He ate all of it and 80% went down.  The best way I found to do it right now is to sit him on my right leg and hold the bowl in my right hand.  Then use my left hand to spoon the mixture into his mouth.  He wants to grab the bowl and spoon, so I have to say “Liam, Liam, up, up”.  He then looks up at me with his mouth partially open and I spoon in the mixture.  He is catching on very quickly!

.

Today, I put 2 teaspoons of rice cereal with 6 teaspoons of milk.  Liam ate the entire bowl with about 70% of it going down.  He is getting more interested in the process – grabbing the spoon and holding it to his mouth and more active with trying to get it down.  I am so proud of him!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Monday, January 18th, 2010

This is Liam’s second day trying solid foods.  We sat him down the exact same way we did yesterday.  It was just after 3:00pm.  We gave him about six spoonfuls of the mixture and he swallowed about 95% of it.  Then we made the mixture just a little more solid.  He took the first spoonful, but the second he spit up a little.  He then was not interested in continuing, so we stopped.  Another very successful introduction!

I found out today that I am staying with “European Integration”.
